NAIMUN XLV

North Catholic wins academic recognition

Ten students from Northeast Catholic High School attended the national High School Model UN Debate Championship in Washington, DC and won two national awards.

The Walsh School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University hosted the 45th Annual North American Invitational Model United Nations Conference (NAIMUN XLV) at the Washington Hilton Hotel on 14-17 February 2008. More than 3,000 high school students from across the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico participated in the largest Model UN debate on the World Affairs topics in the United States. The keynote speaker was the Secretary-General of the United Nations in New York City: Ban Ki-Moon

For the second year in a row, Milan Stanic, a senior, won the Outstanding delegate award in a simulation of the international debate about the Serbia-Kosovo dispute.

Moreover, Sean McMahon, a senior, won the most prestigious debate award in the Model International Court of Justice.

Participation certificates were also presented to: Michael Smaczylo, Nicholas Beattie, Thomas Weney, Sean Devlin, Marcus Rodriguez, Chris Carmona, Michael Bradely, Vicente Hernandez, Adam Jimenez and Armando Portillo.
